About beatjetlag.app
Traveling across multiple time zones is exhausting. For decades, the standard advice for jet lag has been "drink plenty of water" and "try to sleep on the plane." But science has shown that these methods don't actually shift your body's internal clock.
beatjetlag.app was built to solve this problem using scientifically proven methods. We provide a personalised, day-by-day light exposure schedule that helps you shift your circadian rhythm before you even board your flight.
Why Light Matters
Your body clock (circadian rhythm) is primarily regulated by light. Exposing yourself to bright light at specific times — and strictly avoiding it at others — is the most effective way to shift your internal clock to a new time zone.
However, the timing is critical. Getting light exposure at the wrong time can actually shift your clock in the wrong direction, making your jet lag worse. Our calculator takes the guesswork out of the process.
How the Calculator Works
When you enter your flight details and normal sleep schedule, our algorithm calculates exactly how many hours your body needs to shift, and in which direction (advancing for eastward travel, delaying for westward travel).
It then generates a precise schedule telling you exactly when to:
- Seek bright light: Spend time outside in sunlight, or use a bright artificial light source.
- Avoid light: Stay in dim environments, turn off screens, or wear dark sunglasses.
- Sleep: The optimal window for rest to support the shift.
By following this plan for just a few days before departure, you can arrive at your destination already partially or fully adjusted to the local time.
